”Johnson's Hindostan or British India” This is an antique map of India and Southeast Asia. It was published in 1864 by A. J Johnson in New York. Covers from the Indus River eastward to include all of India, Burma, Siam (Thailand), Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia (Malacca) and Vietnam (Tonquin and Chochin). Also includes parts of Pakistan, Nepal, China, Bhutan, Sumatra and Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Offers color coding according to country and region as well as notations regarding roadways, cities, towns, and river systems. Three inset maps focus on the Island of Bombay (Mumbai), Madras, and Calcutta. An view of the Government House and Treasury in Calcutta adorns the upper left corner. Alvin Jewett Johnson (1827-1884) was an American cartographer and publisher known for producing detailed and visually striking atlases and maps in the mid-19th century. His "Johnson’s New Illustrated Family Atlas," first published in 1860, became one of the most popular and widely distributed atlases of its time, reflecting the expanding geography of the United States. ”Troianum Regnum, Novem Dinasteias Complectens; Priami dum Regna Manebant; Adjecta sunt ea quae etiam Innotuere Posterioribus Temporibus Nomina.”&nbsp; This hand-coloured map originates from Nicolas Sanson and Guillaume Sanson’s work ”Cartes generales de toutes les parties du monde, ou les empires, monarchies, republiques, estats, peuples, &amp;c. ... Paris, P.” The work was published by Pierre Mariette in Paris, 1666. Guillaume Sanson (1675–1751) was a French cartographer and the son of the renowned mapmaker Nicolas Sanson. He took over his father's business and continued to produce detailed maps, often focusing on Europe, as well as the Americas and other parts of the world. Guillaume is known for his work on the "Atlas Nouveau" and was highly regarded for his cartographic precision during the 18th century. His maps contributed significantly to the development of geographical knowledge in the period. Pierre Mariette (1602-1658) was a bookseller, printseller, printer, and publisher, located in the Rue Saint-Jacques in Paris. On February 12, 1644, Pierre Mariette acquired most of Melchior Tavernier's fund. In 1646, he had a series of maps by Blaeu copied and asked Abraham Peyrounin to engrave them. In the meantime, he published the works of Nicolas Sanson. In 1650, he published the atlas Théâtre Géographique de France. A second edition followed in 1653. He later contributed to Sanson's atlas, the Cartes générales de toutes les parties du monde. Many maps of Mariette's Théatre appeared in later editions of Sanson's Cartes générales. This west-oriented map shows Ceylon (Sri-Lanka) in the upper left corner. North is on the right side of the map and this shows some of the East Coast of India. Burma, Thailand and the west coast of Malaysia. In the lower left is part of Sumatra. Historical sailing vessels and islands are among the windroses in the bay. Drawn &amp; engraved for John Thomson &amp; Co.'s New general atlas, 12 August 1814"&nbsp; Finely engraved large map with original outline hand color originates from John Thomson’s ”New general atlas”, published in London, 1814. . The map depicts the region from the Baltic Sea, Prussia, and Sweden to the Aleutian Islands and from the Arctic Ocean to the Yellow River. Highly detailed, myriad cities, towns, and villages are labeled throughout, including St. Petersburg, Moscow, Minsk, Kiev, and Kharkov. Rivers and mountain ranges are also identified, as are islands and numerous locations along the coastlines. It is important to note that the long-disputed sea between Korea and Japan is identified as the ”Sea of Japan”.&nbsp; Nathaniel Rogers Hewitt (1783- 1841) was a British engraver active in London during the first half of the 19th century. Hewitt was born in London on the 19th of July 1783. His map engraving work appears as early as 1804, although it is most commonly associated with the 1812 - 1817 atlas maps of publisher John Thomson. Hewitt also worked with James Wyld, Samuel William Fores, and other map publishers of the period. In 1824, Hewitt announced plans to independently publish a series of Parish maps by subscription, and a beautifully engraved map of St. Giles in the Fields followed. The map series must not have been able to attract many followers, as Hewitt declared bankruptcy shortly after in 1826. "Carte Particuliere des Isles Moluques" Hand-coloured antique map of Maluku Islands. The Maluku Islands (also known as the Moluccas, Moluccan Islands and the Spice Islands) are an archipelago that is part of Indonesia, and part of the larger Maritime Southeast Asia region. Jakob van der Schley was a skilled draftsman and engraver who operated out of Amsterdam and had strong ties with the Hague. ”A plain map of Asia, according to the method of the Abbe Gaultier” Hand-coloured engraved map originates from a complete course of geography, by means of instructive games, invented by the Abbe Gaultier. Collated with the author’s last Paris edition, and digested for Europe conformably to the territorial arrangements of the Pacification of 1815, by Jehoshaphat Aspin. In three parts. The first part, containing the game of simple geography, for teaching the names and situations of the different countries and places of the Earth. The second part, containing a concise treatise on the artificial sphere. The third part, containing a geographical game, illustrative of ancient and modern history. Engraved by S. and R. Bentley, printed for John Harris and Son, corner of St. Paul’s Church-yard in London, 1821. Samuel Bentley (1785-1868) and Richard Bentley (1794-1871) were prominent figures in the London publishing world during the early 19th century. Samuel was known for his work as a printer, while Richard gained recognition as a publisher, founding the publishing house Richard Bentley &amp; Son.
