This hand-coloured engraving is a scientific illustration from Handbuch der menschlichen Anatomie (Handbook of Human Anatomy) by Julius von Henle. The print depicts the anatomy of the human heart in six different views, showing its internal structure and chambers. The work is a prime example of 19th-century scientific documentation, used for anatomical study.
Julius von Henle was a German physician, pathologist, and anatomist. He is considered one of the key figures in the development of modern medicine and microscopy. Krausse and Eltzner were German engravers from Leipzig who contributed illustrations to numerous scientific and medical works.
