18 Pierre François Tardieu – Topographic Map of the Environs of Engen and Stockach

This finely engraved map titled Carte Topographique des Environs d’Engen et de Stokach presents a detailed rendering of the landscape surrounding the towns of Engen and Stockach in southern Germany. Featuring elevation lines, rivers, roads, and settlements, the map offers a precise topographical overview of a strategically important region later involved in Napoleon’s 1800 campaign. Marked “Campagne de 1800, T. I,” it formed part of a broader historical atlas documenting military movements of the era.
Created by Pierre François Tardieu, a master of Enlightenment cartography, the map reflects his hallmark precision, compositional balance, and dedication to geographic and military accuracy.
