19 Ambroise Tardieu – Map of the Battles of Spanden, Lomitten, Deppen

This finely engraved military map by Ambroise Tardieu depicts key battle sites in East Prussia during the Napoleonic Wars, including Spanden, Lomitten, Deppen, Dietrichsdorf, and Guttstadt. The map provides a strategic overview of the region, featuring roads, rivers, wooded areas, elevation lines, and troop movements with exceptional cartographic precision.
Created in the context of the War of the Fourth Coalition (1806–1807), the engraving reflects both the historical significance of these military actions and Tardieu’s technical excellence. As a prominent French engraver, cartographer, and publisher, Tardieu was known for his clear, elegant compositions that bridged scientific mapping and historical documentation, making his works vital references in early 19th-century European cartography.
