This striking copperplate engraving by Frederick de Wit features two views of a leopard. The upper panel presents the animal in profile with a calm, observant posture, while the lower panel captures it mid-turn, baring its teeth in a dynamic and expressive pose. The meticulous rendering of the coat pattern and musculature reflects de Wit’s sensitivity to naturalistic detail and composition.

Frederick de Wit (1629–1706) was a prominent Dutch engraver, cartographer, and publisher whose Amsterdam-based workshop produced some of the most influential printed works of the Dutch Golden Age. While primarily celebrated for his maps and atlases, de Wit also created refined zoological engravings that combined scientific inquiry with artistic clarity.
