This exquisite chromolithograph depicts the Ural Owl (Strix uralensis), rendered in exceptional detail perched on a birch stump against a mountainous Nordic landscape. The plate is taken from Svenska Fåglar ("Swedish Birds"), the landmark ornithological series produced by the von Wright brothers—Magnus, Wilhelm, and Ferdinand—in the 19th century. This particular illustration is signed by Magnus von Wright and was printed by A. Börtzells in Stockholm.

Svenska Fåglar is widely regarded as one of the most important Scandinavian bird books, combining scientific precision with aesthetic refinement. The von Wright brothers were pioneering figures in ornithological art, and their work continues to be celebrated for its naturalistic elegance and technical excellence.
