6673 Giocondo Albertolli (1742–1839) & Giacomo Mercoli - Neoclassical Interior with Chimneypiece - Copper engraving - 1778–82

The engraving is taken from Ornamenti diversi, the acclaimed architectural folio published in Milan between 1778 and 1782. This collaborative project between Giocondo Albertolli, engraver Giovanni Mercoli (also referred to as Giacomo Mercoli), and architect Giuseppe Piermarini was intended as a didactic and inspirational resource for architects, decorators, and students of the fine arts. The plates offered models for the integration of ornament into interiors with precise architectural logic.

Albertolli, a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, was a central figure in the dissemination of neoclassical ideals in Italian design. His work deeply influenced generations of architects and artisans in both public and private commissions throughout the Italian north.
