The comprehensive series features detailed studies of French and Continental architecture, including interiors, facades, doorways, fireplaces, and paneling, often in neoclassical style.

Neufforge, a Flemish architect and engraver, both designed and engraved nearly 900 plates for this influential work after settling in Paris circa 1738.
