This atmospheric yellow-toned lithograph by Charles Blunt depicts the lunar crater Cleomedes, one of the prominent impact structures on the Moon’s northeastern quadrant. The plate, labeled “No. 74”, was part of Blunt’s educational astronomical series published in London around 1840. Combining scientific accuracy with artistic abstraction, the image illustrates the crater's ridges, central peak, and surrounding terrain under raking light, evoking the observational limitations and beauty of early selenographic studies.

Blunt’s work aimed to make celestial phenomena accessible to the public through dramatic and didactic visualizations.
