This copperplate engraving titled Plan du Champ de Bataille de Caldiero depicts the terrain and troop dispositions of the battlefield at Caldiero, a strategically important site near Verona in northern Italy. The map illustrates events from one of several battles fought there during the Napoleonic Wars, most notably in 1805 and 1809 between French and Austrian forces. Rendered with precision, it shows positions, movements, fortifications, and topographical features essential to military analysis. These battlefield maps were commonly used for both official records and military instruction in the early 19th century.
