Ober Baden / Obern Baden / Statt und Bäder / nach ihrer Gelegenheit auff das aller fleissigest Contrafehtet. This original woodcut map, published in Basel in 1628 by Henricpetri, offers a detailed bird’s-eye view of the spa town of Baden (Oberbaden) in Switzerland. The illustration captures the city’s architecture, surrounding hills, and key bathhouses, framed by clouds and a coat of arms held by an angel above the town name. This composition is emblematic of Münster’s topographical style, combining geographical accuracy with stylized medieval city portraiture.

Sebastian Münster, a German cartographer, cosmographer, and Hebraist, was one of the most influential figures in 16th-century cartography. His Cosmographia, first published in 1544, became one of the most important and widely read geographical works of the Renaissance, distinguished by its woodcut town views, maps, and ethnographic commentary.
