6500 Émile Baudement (1819–1886) – Bull of Dix (Taureau de Dix) – Heliogravure Print (1861–62)

This rare heliogravure print, titled "TAUREAU DE DIX." (Bull of Dix), and finished with engraving and lithography—a mixed technique—originates from Émile Baudement’s Les Races bovines au Concours universel agricole de Paris en 1856 : Études zootechniques, published in Paris in 1861–62. The illustration, designed by Théodore Rousseau and engraved by Johann Gottfried Weber, features a robust bull standing prominently in a landscape, with another cattle figure in the background. This plate is part of a superb album renowned for its detailed studies of cattle breeds, based on photographs by Nadar jeune and interpreted by notable animal artists, contributing significantly to zootechnical documentation.
Émile Baudement (1819–1886) was a French zootechnical expert and professor, celebrated for his contributions to animal husbandry and agricultural science. He played a key role in organizing the 1856 Concours Agricole Universel and in documenting various foreign livestock breeds through his publications. Théodore Rousseau (1812–1867) was a prominent French painter of the Barbizon School. Johann Gottfried Weber (1804–1880) was a German engraver known for his detailed work.
