This original copperplate engraving, titled Mechanics Tab III, was published in 1790 as part of the New Royal Cyclopaedia and Encyclopaedia issued by Alex. Hogg, London. The plate illustrates fundamental mechanical principles and devices, including diagrams of springs, wedges, weights, pulleys, gear trains, and windlasses. Each figure is finely labeled, showcasing 18th-century scientific understanding of motion, force distribution, and mechanical advantage.

Such engravings served as visual aids to the encyclopedic text, supporting the spread of Enlightenment-era knowledge in engineering, physics, and industrial mechanics. This is one of a series of original technical plates separated from the volume, not a reproduction or facsimile.
