6476 Christoffel van Sichem I – Portrait of Dirk V, Count of Holland – Etching

This finely executed 1601 etching and engraving by Christoffel van Sichem I depicts Dirk V, Count of Holland and Frisia (1052–1091), in ceremonial armor holding a shield adorned with the heraldic lion of Holland. Above the image appears the Latinized name “Theodoricus Septimus”, with a poetic French caption below. Dirk V governed during a period of regional feudal conflict in the Low Countries. The verso contains French historical text.
The sheet shows typical signs of age including a faint vertical crease, slight marginal browning, and a small smudge at the lower right, without affecting the image. A rare and historical representation from early 17th-century Dutch printmaking.
