This rare hand-colored city plan titled Das Lang-defendirte und endlich mit vil Verlust eroberte Stralsund depicts the siege and eventual capture of Stralsund in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Originally printed in Nuremberg in 1718 by Johann Ernst Adelbulner, the work reflects Weigel’s masterful ability to merge military cartography with baroque engraving and narrative.

Johann Christoph Weigel (1654–1725) was a prominent engraver, publisher, and cartographer based in Nuremberg. He collaborated with scholars such as Johann David Köhler and produced detailed atlases, city plans, and historical engravings. Weigel’s works are distinguished by their clarity, ornate cartouches, and historical importance, making them valuable sources for understanding early 18th-century geography and conflict.
