This detailed hand-colored engraving presents a scientific study of a large herbaceous plant, identified as "Sphondylium von Brauns verino vulgare" or Cow Parsnip (Heracleum sphondylium). The print meticulously illustrates the plant's broad, deeply lobed green leaves and its tall, sturdy stem culminating in a distinctive umbrella-like cluster of small white flowers (an umbel). The precise rendering captures the botanical accuracy and intricate details characteristic of comprehensive 18th-century botanical works.

Johann Wilhelm Weinmann was a German apothecary and botanist, renowned for his monumental botanical compilation, Phytanthoza-Iconographia. Published in multiple volumes between 1737 and 1745, this work was one of the earliest and most ambitious attempts to illustrate a vast array of plants from around the world. Although Weinmann compiled the work, the exquisite plates were often based on designs by notable botanical artists and executed by skilled engravers. His Phytanthoza-Iconographia remains a significant achievement in botanical illustration, celebrated for its scientific detail and aesthetic quality, and it played a crucial role in the dissemination of botanical knowledge during the Enlightenment.
