Jacques Eustache de Sève was a celebrated French naturalist artist known for his meticulous and aesthetically pleasing illustrations of animals. He notably contributed a vast number of plates to Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon's monumental Histoire Naturelle and Bernard Germain Étienne de Lacépède's subsequent volumes, including the multi-volume Histoire naturelle des poissons. His works are highly regarded for their scientific accuracy and their contribution to the widespread dissemination of zoological knowledge in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
