5990 Fredericus de Wit (1630–1706) – Studies of Rabbits – Engraving (circa 1700)

This detailed engraving, split into two panels, features various studies of rabbits. The upper panel depicts two rabbits near a burrow entrance, one seen from the side and one from the back. The lower panel shows a rabbit nibbling on vegetation.
Fredericus de Wit (1630–1706) was a prominent Dutch cartographer and publisher during the Golden Age of Dutch cartography, based in Amsterdam. While primarily renowned for his high-quality atlases, individual maps, and sea charts, his firm also published various illustrated works that compiled geographical and natural knowledge of the period, contributing significantly to the dissemination of scientific and general information.
