This detailed copperplate engraving by Frederik de Wit shows the Archbishopric of Mainz (Moguntinum), including Darmstadt, Worms, Frankfurt am Main, and numerous other towns and regions along the middle Rhine. The map is filled with topographical features such as rivers, forests, and elevation hatching, and includes an elaborate title cartouche flanked by allegorical figures and cherubs. The precision and decorative richness are typical of de Wit’s cartographic work and reflect the artistic and geographic standards of late 17th-century Dutch mapmaking.

Frederik de Wit was one of the most prominent Dutch engravers and publishers of the 17th century. His Amsterdam-based workshop produced a wide range of high-quality atlases, wall maps, and town plans that were admired across Europe. His clear cartographic style combined with elegant ornamentation made his maps enduringly popular both as reference tools and collectors' items.
