This finely executed hand-colored map depicts the historical Kingdom of Bohemia (modern-day Czech Republic) along with its associated provinces. Rendered with exceptional detail, it illustrates towns, rivers, political borders, and the mountainous terrain of Central Europe. The map is adorned with an elaborate allegorical cartouche showing classical figures and scientific instruments, symbolizing wisdom and exploration. Originally published in Weigel’s Bequemer Schul- und Reisen-Atlas (also known as Atlas Scholasticus et Itinerarius), the work reflects early Enlightenment cartographic standards.

Johann Christoph Weigel (1654–1725) was a Nuremberg-based German engraver, bookseller, and map publisher. Best known for his visually engaging and educational atlases, Weigel collaborated closely with historian Johann David Köhler to produce maps that served both instructional and travel purposes. His cartographic work was widely appreciated for its precision, clarity, and decorative flourishes, making it popular among scholars and collectors alike.
