This zoological chromolithograph from Atlas of the Mammals of Scandinavia illustrates five species of cetaceans: the common porpoise (Phocaena communis), white whale (Delphinapterus leucas), beaked whale (Hyperoodon rostratus), fin whale (Balaenoptera musculus), and bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus). Each specimen is depicted in lifelike coloration with careful anatomical rendering, capturing the morphological variety among Scandinavian marine mammals. The scientific supervision was led by Wilhelm Meves, with accompanying texts by A.E. Holmgren.

Originally published in Stockholm by E.M. Giron in 1873, this work is part of a comprehensive zoological atlas combining naturalistic detail with scientific taxonomy, and it stands as a testament to 19th-century natural history illustration.
