This set includes two vivid chromolithographic plates from Adalbert Seitz’s seminal entomological series Die Gross-Schmetterlinge der Erde (The Macrolepidoptera of the World), published in Stuttgart by Fritz Lehmann's Verlag between 1909 and 1915. One plate features Aporia metaporia, a delicate Asian butterfly with translucent white wings and fine black veining. The second complements it with additional Aporia species, showcasing subtle regional variations in pattern and form. These scientifically rigorous and visually elegant prints reflect the height of early 20th-century natural history illustration.

Adalbert Seitz (1860–1938) was a renowned German entomologist and lepidopterist. His multi-volume publication on the world’s butterflies and moths remains a cornerstone of entomological literature. Seitz’s plates are celebrated for their taxonomic clarity and visual brilliance, documenting thousands of species from every continent and contributing significantly to the classification and global study of Lepidoptera.
