4732 Jaques Gabriel Huquier – Rear View of the Exchange of Seville and Cathedral (c.1760s)

This finely hand-coloured optical print by Jaques Gabriel Huquier presents a grand architectural view of the rear façade of the Casa Lonja de Mercaderes (Seville Exchange), adjacent to the celebrated Seville Cathedral. The composition emphasizes the contrast between the Renaissance-style stock exchange and the richly ornamented Gothic and Mudejar features of the cathedral, including the famous Giralda bell tower.
Huquier, a French engraver and publisher, was known for his scenic and architectural views that combined artistic charm with documentary precision. This work was printed in Paris by Huquier fils and sold at his shop “chez lui,” rue St. Jacques, as part of a series depicting cities under foreign rule.
