4714 Jean-François de Neufforge (1714–1791) – Set of 2 Architectural Prints – Door Elevations – Engravings
This set of two architectural engravings by Jean-François de Neufforge features a richly detailed development of classical door designs alongside a technical architectural diagram. Both plates were published in Paris in 1770 as part of Neufforge’s monumental Recueil Élémentaire d’Architecture, a comprehensive compendium of architectural models for use in design and instruction. The door studies showcase a variety of classical forms, decorative motifs, and proportional systems, while the accompanying diagram reflects Neufforge’s systematic approach to structural composition and spatial hierarchy.
Neufforge’s Recueil is considered one of the most ambitious and influential architectural reference works of the 18th century. Comprising hundreds of engravings, the collection aimed to provide a complete visual grammar for architects and builders, firmly rooted in classical tradition but adaptable to Enlightenment ideals of order, clarity, and rational design.
