4512 Willem Baudartius (1565–1640) – Siege of Oldenzaal by Marquis de Spinola, 1605 – Engraving (1616)

This engraving revisits the same historical event as Plate 8424, showing the military campaign of Ambrogio Spinola against the Dutch garrison of Oldenzaal. The fortifications are precisely delineated, and the dramatic tension of the siege is emphasized in the composition. The print formed part of Baudartius’s Les Guerres de Nassau series.
Willem Baudartius (1565–1640) created one of the most important visual documentations of the Dutch Revolt. His engravings merged Protestant propaganda, historical record, and cartographic clarity in the service of the nascent Dutch Republic.
