3 Matthäus Seutter – Map of the Territories of Wurten, Eilendorf, Düren and Surroundings / Geographische Vorstellung der Aemter Wurten, Eilendorff, Düren etc. – Hand-Colored Copperplate Engraving

This richly decorated hand-colored copperplate engraving by Matthäus Seutter presents a detailed cartographic representation of the administrative territories around Düren, Eilendorf, and Wurten in the Rhineland. The map is embellished with baroque elements, including cherubic cartouches bearing city seals, a sculptural title cartouche in the lower left corner, and extensive registers of place names flanking the map on either side. Rivers, towns, forests, and borders are carefully delineated and hand-colored to distinguish jurisdictions. The overall composition reflects the grandeur and clarity characteristic of mid-18th-century German cartography.
Matthäus Seutter (1678–1757) was a prominent Augsburg-based cartographer and publisher who received the title of Imperial Geographer from Emperor Charles VI. He produced lavishly illustrated maps, atlases, and globes that combined scientific accuracy with ornate baroque aesthetics. His works were widely collected and served both political and decorative purposes throughout the Holy Roman Empire.
