This set of two antique architectural prints originates from Jean-François de Neufforge’s Recueil Élémentaire d’Architecture, published in Paris in 1770. The plates depict detailed studies of a large gallery suitable for a sovereign, including floor plans and interior decoration. Neufforge’s work is renowned for its comprehensive coverage of French and Continental architectural designs, featuring facades, interiors, doorways, pediments, windows, fireplaces, fences, gates, columns, stairways, vases, and paneling, with a strong emphasis on the neoclassical style that dominated the latter half of the 18th century.

Jean-François de Neufforge was a Flemish architect and engraver who moved to Paris around 1738. He both designed and engraved nearly 900 plates for his monumental Recueil Élémentaire d’Architecture, which remains a significant resource for architectural history and design.
