This original 18th-century map, engraved by Thomas Bowen, illustrates the Bay of Bulls and part of the Bay of Cadiz during the Siege of Cadiz. It shows detailed topography of the Spanish coast between the towns of Rota and Fort St. Catherine, including a large assembly of naval ships, fortifications, landing sites, and troop encampments. A cartouche titled "Explanation" provides numbered references to the military positions and actions. The map was engraved for John Harrison’s edition of Paul de Rapin's History of England, a widely published and richly illustrated historical work. The inscription at the top confirms: "Engraved for Harrison's edition of Rapin."

Thomas Bowen, son of the renowned engraver Emanuel Bowen, was an accomplished British mapmaker of the mid-to-late 18th century. He engraved maps for numerous historical and geographical publications, continuing the family legacy of detailed and accessible cartographic works.
