This Italian nautical chart titled Piano della Rada e della Città della Vera Cruz depicts the harbor and surrounding waters of Veracruz on the Gulf Coast of Mexico. Oriented with a large compass rose, the map shows coastal contours, shoals, soundings, and fortifications, including Castillo de San Juan de Ulúa. An inset legend identifies key buildings in the city such as the cathedral, governor’s palace, and the Jesuit and Dominican convents. This chart was engraved by Violante Vanni, one of the few known female engravers of 18th-century Italy.
