This large-format hand-colored copperplate engraving by Matthäus Seutter depicts the Electorate of Saxony and neighboring territories under the rule of Friedrich August, with Dresden prominently marked in red at the center. The map is embellished with heraldic coats of arms, an elaborate compass rose, and a richly detailed key on the right listing numerous administrative divisions, cities, and estates. A panoramic city view of Dresden appears at the bottom. This map exemplifies Seutter’s baroque cartographic style, merging political geography with ornate allegorical and heraldic ornamentation.

Matthäus Seutter (1678–1757) was one of the most influential German mapmakers of the 18th century. Operating from Augsburg, he was appointed Imperial Geographer by Emperor Charles VI. His atlases and individual maps are known for their visual richness, technical precision, and decorative appeal, serving both scholarly and representational purposes.
