67 Ulrik Thersner (1779–1828) – View of Marsvinsholm Castle in Sweden – Engraving (1828–1867)

This antique engraving by Ulrik Thersner is from the monumental series Fordna och närvarande Sverige (Ancient and Modern Sweden), published in Stockholm between 1828 and 1867. The print presents Marsvinsholm Castle, a Renaissance-style manor house located in the Skåne region of southern Sweden. Originally built in the 17th century, Marsvinsholm is notable for its symmetrical layout, rich history, and scenic surroundings. Thersner’s publication sought to visually document Sweden’s most important architectural landmarks.

He began his naval career at the age of seven during Gustav III’s Russian War and rose through the ranks to become a major in the Surveying Brigade.
