This antique engraving presents a detailed plan of the fortified city of Liège (Luik), located on the Meuse River between Maastricht and Namur. The map depicts the military situation during the War of the Spanish Succession, noting the city's siege and subsequent capture by imperial forces under the command of the Count of Nassau-Saarbrücken on October 23, 1702. The title appears in both Dutch and Latin, reflecting the region's multilingual and politically complex context: ‘Luick, in het landschap van die naam, aan de Maas…’ and ‘Leodium ad Mosam inter Hujum et Trajectum…’. The map emphasizes the city’s bastioned fortifications, key urban features, surrounding terrain, and approaches, with a compass rose and structured legend.

Christoph Weigel the Elder (1654–1725) was a German engraver and publisher known for his highly detailed maps and illustrated theological works, contributing significantly to the visual culture of the Baroque period.
