This pair of 17th-century engravings depicts Paulus Wurtz (1612–1676), Field Marshal of the Dutch States Army, appointed in 1668. The first engraving presents Wurtz in full ceremonial armor with battlefield action in the background, capturing his military status and authority. The second is a simplified bust-length portrait with identifying inscription.

Both works reflect the baroque engraving style of Christian Hagen, active in Amsterdam, and were published by renowned Dutch printers Jacob van Meurs and Johannes van Someren. Together, the engravings offer complementary views of one of the key military leaders of the Dutch Republic during its Golden Age.
