103 Johann Christoph Göbel, August Holtrup, Friedrich Carl Krüger Jr., Johann Georg Beyer – Set of 6 Scientific Portraits – Sprengel, Wiegleb, Lüdeke, Reinhard, Knappe, Lichtwer – Etchings (1792–1793)

This set of six finely detailed etchings features portraits of notable German scholars and public figures of the late Enlightenment. Depicted are Martin Christian Sprengel, Johann Christian Wiegleb (born 1732), Friedrich Gerhard Lüdeke, Franz Volkmar Reinhard, Georg Christian Knappe, and Gottfried Lichtwer (born 1739). Each figure is rendered in an oval medallion with decorative ribbon motifs and an engraved nameplate, following the academic portrait conventions of the time.
The original drawings were created by Johann Christoph Göbel in 1792, and the engravings were executed by August Holtrup (1793), Friedrich Carl Krüger Jr., and Johann Georg Beyer. These portraits were likely part of a commemorative publication celebrating the scientific and intellectual elite of late 18th-century Germany.
