The map shows the detailed fortifications of the city of Augsburg (Augusta Vindelicorum), located on the Lech River near the Danube in the Swabian region of southern Germany. This highly stylized plan highlights the star-shaped bastions surrounding the city, with internal structures and defensive features clearly outlined. The Latin title at the bottom refers to the ancient Roman name of the city, emphasizing its historical importance.

Petrus Schenk (1660–1711) was a prominent Dutch-German cartographer and engraver based in Amsterdam. He was known for his city views and military fortification maps, which were often created in collaboration with Gerard Valck. His work played a significant role in documenting the political and military geography of Europe during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The map was published in Amsterdam around 1677.
