"Circuli Supe Saxoniae Pars Meridionalis five Ducatus Electoratus et Principatus"

This large historical map depicts the Upper Saxon Circle (Obersächsischer Reichskreis) of the Holy Roman Empire, covering major parts of Saxony, Thuringia, and adjacent regions. The map shows a highly detailed and color-coded division into principalities, bishoprics, and cities, with extensive geographic and political labeling. An elaborate title cartouche in the top left corner features classical figures and heraldic symbols, reinforcing the prestige of the territories shown.

Johann Baptist Homann (1664–1724) was a German cartographer and engraver, known for his highly detailed and beautifully decorated maps. He founded the Homann publishing house in Nuremberg, which became one of the most important centers of map production in Europe during the 18th century. His works combined scientific accuracy with artistic elegance, often including allegorical cartouches and city views.
