This hand-coloured print originates from a rare edition of: 'Korte beschryvinghe, ende aenwysinghe der plaetsen in desen boeck ...' (or other ed. French ed. titled: 'Briefve Description, et Demonstration Des Places Et Villes Continuees En Ce Livre.'), by Gaspar Bouttats, published by Jacques Peeters in Antwerp, ca 1685. This etching is part of a collection of a varying amount of prints relating to the Great Turkish war (1667-1683), published in various languages. Rare. State: Third state of 3. Ref: Hollstein 70.

Made by 'Lucas Vorsterman II' after 'Jan Peeters I'. Lucas Vorsterman II / the younger (1624-c.1670) was a Flemish engraver, son of Lucas Vorsterman I. He was active in Antwerp and worked after Rubens and others. Ioan / Jan Peeters I (1624-1677) was a Flemish Baroque painter who specialised in seascapes and shipwrecks known as Zeekens (small seascapes). Brother of Jacob Peeters.
