This set features two exquisite hand-coloured plates depicting moths of the Tephrina, Boarmia, and Epione-Boarmia families. Each sheet includes two finely arranged taxonomic plates (four in total), presenting a wide range of natural variations, wing patterns, and scientific identifications. The style is highly detailed and characteristic of Victorian natural history publishing.

William MacKenzie, a 19th-century British publisher based in London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, was known for producing grand illustrated volumes. His natural history works were particularly admired for their visual appeal and educational value. The engravings in this set reflect the meticulous style typical of the era and were likely prepared by skilled anonymous illustrators under MacKenzie’s direction.
