Published in Nuremberg, 1720. Decorative antique map and early view&nbsp;of Istanbul and environs.The map includes a large inset bird's-eye view of the Bosphorus with several ships in the foreground framed with an allegorical cartouche, inspired by the oriental world using symbols like the half-moon and the oil lamp. Wisdom and knowledge are also depicted using a book and a terrestrial globe.The view of the city shows the former Christian church Hagia-Sophia, the Blue Mosque, three Egyptian obelisks which the Romans brought to the city, Sultan Suleyman's Mosque and the palace of the Sultan. The work was published in London, 1828. Aaron Arrowsmith (1750–1823) was a prominent British cartographer and engraver, regarded as one of the leading mapmakers of his era. He founded a highly respected cartographic business in London, producing detailed and accurate maps, charts, and globes that were widely used for navigation and exploration. Arrowsmith's works, such as his celebrated map of North America (1796), were known for their precision and incorporation of the latest geographical discoveries. His legacy continued through his family, as his son and nephew carried on the Arrowsmith mapmaking tradition.
