This finely executed portrait etching was published in Sweden during the late 19th or early 20th century. The artwork, titled "Rathelieu", captures the expressive and deeply textured face of an elderly man with a warm, knowing smile, executed with exceptional detail and precision. The fine linework and sensitive rendering of facial textures, wrinkles, and hair demonstrate Tallberg’s mastery of etching techniques, influenced by Rembrandt, Anders Zorn, and the European realist tradition.

Axel Tallberg (1860–1928) was instrumental in popularizing etching in Sweden, teaching at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and influencing a new generation of printmakers. His works often focused on human expression and character studies, making this etching an excellent example of his artistic approach.
