7192 Jacob Cats (1577–1660) – The Power of Truth – Engraving (c. 1655)

This engraving is from the Dutch emblem book "Alle de Wercken" by Jacob Cats. Titled "Waertheyts Kracht" (The Power of Truth), the illustration depicts a figure representing Truth rising from a grave or crypt, bathed in light. The Latin motto "Verità non puo star sepolta" (Truth cannot be buried) reinforces the central message that truth will ultimately prevail, no matter how much it is suppressed.
Jacob Cats was a Dutch poet, lawyer, and politician. He held high positions, including that of Grand Pensionary of Holland. He was extremely popular as the author of emblem books, which consist of engravings with moral and didactic verses. His work had a great influence on Dutch culture.
