Dated 12.4.59, this powerful ink lithograph by Pablo Picasso captures a charging bull in raw gestural energy, using only a few sweeping lines and expressive textures. The bull, central to the iconography of Toros y Toreros, is rendered with dynamism and vitality, standing poised with force and symbolic weight. This image is one of Picasso’s most evocative tributes to the corrida, distilling the subject to its primal essence. The work was published in 1961 by Maeght Éditeur as part of the Toros y Toreros suite.

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, returned to the theme of bullfighting throughout his career. In the late 1950s, this obsession culminated in the creation of Toros y Toreros, a series of ink drawings and lithographs merging personal mythology, Spanish tradition, and radical artistic reduction. The series reflects Picasso’s mastery in conveying motion, violence, and drama with minimal means.
