4640 Carl Gustav Jablonsky (1756–1787) – Set of 2 Plates of Phlegmacium Mushrooms – Copperplate Engravings (Late 18th Century)

This two-plate set features finely etched illustrations of Phlegmacium mushrooms, part of the larger Cortinariaceae family. The first plate, titled Phlegmacium – Inoloma (Tab. 44), includes labeled species such as Phlegmacium emollitum, cyanites, malachium, violaceum, and albolivaceum. The second plate (Tab. 45) continues under the heading Inoloma, with species like trigamum, muricinum, tophaceum, and opimum. The compositions are organized to show morphological distinctions in cap structure, coloration, and spore patterns—highlighting the Enlightenment drive toward systematic classification.
Carl Gustav Jablonsky (1756–1787) was a Prussian naturalist and illustrator based in Berlin, who served as private secretary to Queen Elisabeth Christine of Prussia. Despite his short life, he helped pioneer scientific illustration rooted in Linnaean taxonomy.
