4587 Johann Stridbeck (1665–1714) – View of the Steward of the King of Sweden’s Residence – Copperplate Engraving (c.1700)

This architectural engraving depicts the royal steward’s palace (Stedevart des Königs van Zweden) with its symmetrical layout, prominent towers, and surrounding colonnades. The large open square in front of the building is filled with carriages, riders, and courtly activity, creating a vivid scene of 18th-century ceremonial life. The caption is rendered in both Latin and Dutch, a signature format in Stridbeck’s Augsburg-published urban views.
Johann Stridbeck was a prolific German engraver and topographical artist from Augsburg. He collaborated closely with his father, Johann Stridbeck the Elder, producing richly detailed views of European cities and noble estates that are now considered invaluable documentary records.
