This vibrant set of four chromolithographic plates originates from Adalbert Seitz’s monumental entomological work Die Gross-Schmetterlinge der Erde (“The Macrolepidoptera of the World”), published in Stuttgart between 1909 and 1915 by Fritz Lehmann's Verlag. The prints depict an exquisite range of Lycaenidae butterflies, including rare and visually striking species such as Kapala thecla, Thecla zephyrus, and Zephyrus cigaritis. Each specimen is shown with remarkable colour accuracy and precision, capturing both dorsal and ventral wing patterns.

These plates exemplify the height of chromolithographic printing in scientific illustration, blending taxonomic utility with artistic refinement. Seitz’s atlas remains one of the most important references in lepidopterology, documenting global butterfly diversity during a period of intense scientific exploration.
