This copperplate engraving titled Le Bouc de Juda (The Buck of Judea) is taken from Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon’s monumental Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière. The composition presents a light-colored male goat standing confidently atop a rocky ledge, with stylized rural architecture and palms visible in the distance. The plate is marked Tome XII, Pl. XX and was drawn by Jacques de Sève and engraved by Charles Baquoy, both of whom played central roles in illustrating Buffon’s comprehensive zoological encyclopedia.
