This exquisite set of four original hand-coloured engravings features Inula Dysenterica (Common Fleabane), Bidens Cernua (Nodding Beggarticks), Senecio Jacobaea (Common Ragwort), and Senecio Aquaticus. These prints are taken from James Sowerby’s seminal botanical work English Botany or, Coloured Figures of British Plants, with their Essential Characters, Synonyms and Places of Growth, published by J. Davis in London between 1790 and 1814. The first edition of this extensively illustrated series is highly regarded for its scientific accuracy, delicate artistry, and detailed representation of British flora.
James Sowerby was an English naturalist and botanical illustrator celebrated for his prolific and precise plant illustrations.
