This elegant bird’s-eye view of Bremgarten in the Swiss canton of Aargau was engraved by Pieter van der Aa around 1715. The composition presents the walled city in remarkable detail, nestled between the Reuss River and cultivated hills, with churches, civic buildings, and monasteries clearly marked and labeled in French. The engraving balances cartographic precision with a picturesque representation of daily life, including rural figures harvesting in the foreground.

Pieter van der Aa (1659–1733) was a Dutch publisher and engraver based in Leiden, known for his vast output of maps, city views, and travel books. His works played a central role in documenting early modern geography for a growing European audience, often combining visual clarity with decorative flourish.
