This finely engraved French map titled Carte de la Haute Égypte shows the course of the Nile River from Cairo to Aswan, including oases, cities, and the Red Sea coast. It is based on the English cartography of Aroowsmith and was redrawn and engraved by Ambroise Tardieu, a prominent 19th-century French cartographer and engraver. Cities such as Minieh, Siout, Thebes, and Assouan are clearly marked, along with major geographic features like the Desert of the Thebaid and the Baie de Kosseir. The map is part of a series of scientific and exploratory maps created during the period of heightened European interest in Egypt following Napoleon’s campaign.

Ambroise Tardieu (1788–1841) was a noted French geographer and engraver, known for his extensive atlases and scientific maps. He contributed to the dissemination of geographic knowledge in the 19th century and worked with many leading intellectuals of his time.
