This richly engraved and hand-coloured map titled Europae Recens Descriptio presents a detailed view of the European continent, from Iberia and the British Isles to the Russian Empire and the Ottoman frontier. Each region is outlined in distinct watercolour borders, with Latin toponyms densely covering the territories. In the lower left corner, an allegorical cartouche features Europa seated on a globe, flanked by cherubs, referencing classical symbolism and cartographic authority. This map was published in Nuremberg in 1720 as part of Christoph Weigel’s historical atlas.

Christoph Weigel the Elder (1654–1725) was a German engraver and publisher known for his highly detailed maps and illustrated theological works, contributing significantly to the visual culture of the Baroque period.
